Craniosacral Poem

My head swings
From side to side,
Part salamander
Part water —
Fluidity
Embodied
As my reptilian brain awakens,
Ancient sensory wisdom
That trumps my cerebral cortex.

The swaying slows
And shifts as
I arch
Back
and
Forth,
A floating
Undulating
Sea horse.

A moment of stillness,
And my sea turtle emerges,
Spinning around until she is floating
Upside down,
Pulling her neck back
As far out of the shell as she can…
And I find myself hanging upside down
Halfway off the table,
Arms
d
a
n
g
ling.

Just then dolphin leaps out
Ready for a joy ride.
My whole body yearns to open
And I turn into a mermaid
Silken tail
Flapping on the table
As the movement softens and slows.

Magical cranial wisdom.
