Creative Unblock
I stepped into the elusive zone–
Time suspended in service
Of the artistic flow—
Brain racing thrice as fast
As my fingers could follow,
Sidenotes catching the overflow.
So long I’ve been caught in the block,
My mind working so hard
For the price of one word,
I’d forgotten what it was like to unlock
The genius from her box.
Allowing my intuition to be my guide,
Connecting voice, heart and knowing
All I needed to do was follow the thread
From word to paragraph to closing chapter
As the missing pieces aligned for me
And my principal character.
As I emerge from six wild days of writing,
All else put on hold—even, at times, eating—
I’m in a bit of a daze,
Body coming down from the rush
Of the creative gush.
